Happenings at THE FINE ARTS CENTER

IMPROV FACTION:

This program, open to tenth grade through first year college students, meets on Thursday afternoons, 5 to 6 p.m., under the direction of Barbara Dawson. This is a great place to develop good theatre skills including improvisation and character develop.m.ent, as well as to just have fun. FOCUS ON BRIGHAM CITY:

This display of 16 photographs of sites in and around Brigham City represents the work of the adult Basic Photography class taught by Amber Rust. The exhibit will move to local businesses on a weekly basis. It is scheduled to be at Members First Credit Union the week of August 24-31 and the Brigham City Library August 31 to September 8.



PEACH DAYS MELO DRAMA:

Tickets are now on sale for the melodrama “The Ballad of Porcupine Joe” by Geri Garfield to be presented at the Fine Arts Center on Peach Day, Saturday, September 12, with performances set for 3, 5 and 7 p.m. plus a pre-show by singer Trevor J. White. Will the Gold Bar Bank go under, or will the hero or heroine step in and save it (and the town)? This 45-minute event features ten talented teenagers over-acting in traditional melodrama form that is fun for the whole family. Tickets are $5 per person or $20 per immediate family. FALL CLASSES:

Registration is now underway for fall classes at the Fine Arts Center, with all classes beginning the week of September 14. Classes will need a minimum of seven students to run.



YOUTH AFTER-SCHOOL CLASSES:

•Youth Choir : Mondays, K-2 Children’s Choir is 4 – 5 p.m. for ages 5 through 7 years; Regular Youth Choir is 5-6 p.m. for 8 to 15 years of ages; Audition choir for 9 and up will start in January. Children learn vocal and memorization techniques and get to experience the fun of singing together and simple choreography, develop a stage presence and have solo opportunities. Instructor is Janni Richards. Classes go through December. Cost is $55 for 14 weeks or $20 per month, with a $5 dollar discount for registration on or before September 4.

•Elementary Theater School: Tuesdays, 4 to 5 p.m. for first through fifth graders. September 15 through November 3, with a performance on November11. Learn acting techniques including vocal projection, audition end-of-class presentation. Instructor is Bonnie Richardson. Cost is $30.

•Basic Youth Drawing: Tuesdays 4 to 5 p.m. for grades 3 through 8. September 15 through November 3. Learn and practice drawing skills and techniques. Instructor is Brad Williams. Cost is $35 and includes supplies.

•Advanced Youth Drawing and Painting: Wednesdays, 4-5 p.m. for 11 years and up. Learn sketching and acrylic painting techniques. Work on group project and one individual project with emphasis on scenic and wildlife paintings. Instructor is Amber Hansen. Cost is $35 and includes some supplies.

•Intermediate Theater School: Thursdays 4-5 p.m. For students grade 6 to 8, September 15 through November 3 with performance on November 11. Learn acting techniques including vocal projection, audition skills, memorization techniques, stage blocking with theater games and an end-of-class presentation. Instructor is Barbara Dawson. Cost is $35.

•Youth Arts and Crafts Class: Thursdays 4-5 p.m. For grades 1 to 5, September 17 through November 5. Learn sk ills with a variety of arts and craft media and make weekly take home art projects. Instructor is Verlyn King. Cost is $30 and includes materials.

•Improv Faction: Thursdays, 5 – 6 p.m., for tenth grade through first year college students. Improvisation games and instruction are under the direction of Barbara Dawson. No fee.

•Theatre Workshop: Thursday, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and some Saturdays for students in grades 9 through 12. September 17 through Dec. 14, under direction of Ann Bailey. Develop acting skills, learn different aspects of theater, put on a community theater production the second weekend in December. Class fee is $40. Check website for finalized details.



ADULT/EVENING CLASSES:

•Intermediate Watercolor: Tuesday evenings 7 to 9 p.m. for 6 weeks. Learn advanced techniques, get individualized help to complete a final picture. Instructor is Iantha Folkman. This class is scheduled to run September 15- October 27, ( no class 0ctober 13) .

•Beginning Watercolor: Wednesday evenings for six weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Learn the fun, and variety of expression possible with watercolor. Classes included are recommended materials, color mixing, and basic water color techniques. Nicole Oksness is instructor, September 16 through October 21.

•Basic Photography: Thursdays 6:30 to 8:00p.m. for 5 weeks, September 17 through October 15. Amber Rust is instructor. Class fee is $30.
