IMPROV FACTION: This program, open to tenth grade through first year college students, meets on Thursday afternoons, 5 to 6 p.m., under the direction of Barbara Dawson. Contact Barbara Dawson at 723-2741 for dates and additional information.

WORLD OF PUPPETRY MUSEUM:

The World of Puppetry Museum will be open Saturday, September 19, from 2 to 5 p.m. Free activities include puppet history tours and demonstrations, puppet making and puppet play, a “Punch & Judy” show at 3 p.m., and puppet story time at 4 p.m. The Museum is open the first and third Saturday of each month from 2 to 5 p.m. or by appointment for groups. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.



OPEN MIKE NIGHT: Open Mike Night is this Saturday, September 19, 7 to 9:30 p.m. Those wishing to perform can sign up starting at 7 p.m. when the doors open. This is a great venue for vocalists, pianists, poets, comedians and ensembles to try out new material and experience audience feedback. There is no admission fee for performers, with a recommended $2 donation for non-performers.



STATEWIDE MUSEUM DAY: Watch for Utah Museum Day on September 26, when The World of Puppetry Museum will hold a free celebration day. The Museum will be open from 2 to 5 p.m. A “Punch & Judy” show at 3 p.m. will be followed by a fun-for-all puppet history performance at 3:30 p.m.



MUSIC IN THE CITY: This popular series will begin again in October and continue on the third Friday of each month. The first performance on October 16 will feature the Red Desert Ramblers playing bluegrass, old country and swing music with guitar, mandolin, hammered dulcimer and five-string banjo backing vocalists. These musicians are known for awesome music and smoking instrumental breaks.



FALL CLASSES:

Fall classes at the Fine Arts Center begin next week, with registration now underway. The following classes are offered.

•Youth Choir : Mondays, K-2 Children’s Choir, 4-5 p.m. for ages 5-7; Youth Choir is 5-6 p.m. for 8-15; Audition Choir for 9 and up will start in January. Cost is $55 for 14 weeks or $20 per month.

•Elementary Theater School: Tuesdays, 4-5 p.m. for grades 1-5, closing with a performance on November 10. Cost is $30.

•Basic Youth Drawing: Tuesdays 4-5 p.m. for grades 3-8. Cost is $35 and includes supplies.

•Intermediate Theater School: Thursdays 4-5 p.m. For grades 6-8, with performance on November 12. Cost is $35.

•Theatre Workshop: Thursday, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., some Saturdays, grades 9-12, closes with a production the second weekend in December. Class fee is $40.

•Adult Intermediate Watercolor: Tuesday, 7-9 p.m. for six weeks. Class fee is $40.

•Adult Beginning Watercolor: Wednesday, six weeks from 7-8:30 p.m. Class fee is $40.

•Adult Basic Photography: Thursdays 6:30-8 p.m. for five weeks, Class fee is $30.
