And the location is . . .

Officials of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said yesterday that the recently-announced Brigham City temple will be built on the property at 250 South Main Street, directly across the street, west of the Brigham City Tabernacle, according to church spokesman, Scott Trotter. This will bring the total number of Utah temples to 14 when it is completed. Employees of Applied Geotechnical Engineering Consultants, Inc. (AGEC), are shown on the vacant Central Square property earlier this month gathering core samples. According to its website, AGEC focuses its expertise on geotechnical, geologic and construction-materials testing aspects of constructed facilities and the environment. Its objective is to provide clients with technically-sound recommendations after consideration of theoretical, practical and economic aspects of clients’ projects. Now speculators can wonder about how it is going to fit.

Flapjacks hit the nail on the head. Packer property that has sat vacant for years (for being overpriced) that sold in an instant is suspect. Tabernacle may have been buit on that site for a good reason at one time, but now, not so much. There are plenty of open spaces in the area that would have worked as well for Temple site with plenty of ample parking.

The church has a reason for were they put every temple it is becuase of were God tells them.

I think if they put the temple there they will address the parking issue. And for all those that live in the area why are you crying your home value is going up.

I am so sure that parking will be a problem for all of them that live around there. Us that live around here are not being selfish but you all haven't thought about it being located here. That is being selfish about the parking situation.

So what if the Packers own it or sell it or broker the sale of it. Everyone has to make a living, some just live better than others. Just be thankful that you are able to witness and be a part of this exciting time in our lives. Hope you change your attitude and actually make it into the temple and then it wouldn't be such a big deal to you, either.

flapjacks, that rumor is about as reliable as most rumors. Anyway, no matter where it was built it is likely that the Packer family has ties to it somewhere since Pres. Packer's brother is/was in the real estate business. I know one of the other sites east of the cemetary had Packer homes nearby. I don't think I would waste much time worrying about it. The proposed site across from the tabernacle is clearly a choice location. Parking would only be a problem for the open house, otherwise it is fine.

Rumor has it that property is owned by members of Pres. Packer's extended family. It might give the church a black eye knowing that it might be giving kickbacks to a general authority's fam.

The temple block is almost identical in size to the block the tabernacle is on. I'm sure it will fit just fine.
