Brigham City Planning Commission’s requirements for a conditional use permit (CUP) were satisfied last week for Rocky Mountain Power (RMP) to construct the Brigham City segment of their 345 kV transmission line from the Populus Substation near Downey, Idaho to the Ben Lomond Substation near Plain City.
The granting of a final permit came July 8 when RMP met the 11 conditions listed in the permit paperwork.
The exact date of construction of the utility through Brigham City is not known. However, RMP’s contractor has assured the city that construction of access roads and pads for the 150 foot high utility poles will be the least intrusive to the public as possible.
Two years ago RMP informed Brigham City of its intent to construct a new power transmission line along the mountainside. Mayor Lou Ann Christensen asked RMP to relocate the line closer to its existing line west of Interstate 15. The request was discussed by RMP but the company said if the line location was changed Brigham City would be required to pay the additional expense.
