School board members recently toured the nearly completed classroom wings at Box Elder High School. School will start as scheduled on Monday, August 31. Contractors are hurrying to put the finishing touches. Carpet has been laid and the final “punch lists” are being completed. Classroom furniture will be installed in the coming days. Wiring for the computer labs and equipment is slated to follow.
Although the view from 600 West resembles a war zone, the phase one construction, which can be better seen from 400 South or 800 West, is on schedule. Students will be able to safely move through the building in specially constructed “tunnels” which will route them around the phase two construction that will continue throughout the year. The new kitchen and cafeteria will not be available until November but the old lunchroom facilities remain intact and will be open to serve the students.
District officials and board members expressed delight during their tour. Jim Christensen, District Facilities Director commented, “Our students will be aware they are in a construction zone as they go in and out of the building. We are looking forward to their cooperation as we complete what will be an exciting new campus when it is finished.”
